Nobody gets away without a few 1 and 2-star reviews

Post by Guest »

Getting a 1-star review sucks, but if you are getting a few, don't panic just yet. What percentage of your reviews are 1-star? If the answer is ten percent or less, you're probably okay, but if they're north of twenty percent, you may have a problem.

Nobody gets away without a few 1 and 2-star reviews. The reading public and its taste is just too diverse for that to happen. The most successful books get 1-stars, so you and I aren't going to do much better.

Also, keep in mind that there are people out there who thrive on ripping others to shreds. They are the same kind of people who steal from church collection plates and burn police cars during peaceful demonstrations. They just hate everybody, and though most of them are illiterate, the few who do read aren't about to praise anything. Ignore them. Put them out of your mind.

If your books are on Amazon, you can usually click on the reviewer's profile name and look at other reviews they have written. I've noticed that several of my 1-star reviewers give one star to everything they read, which tells me all I need to know. If, on the other hand, they're handing out five stars to everyone else, I take them a little more seriously.

Just my take.

I saw a couple of one-star reviews because the ebook didn't download properly.

Or a physical book having a bend in the cover upon delivery. Not fair!

A couple of my poor reviews had nothing to do with story but were complaints about formatting or even more ridiculous, complaints about Amazon messing up the order.
