2 reasons:

They don’t make enough money to cover their expenses and weren’t taught to pay themselves first.
They don’t value themselves or their future enough to prepare for it.

Only just making enough to cover outgoings for family - taking out savings first and budgeting the rest doesn’t work when ‘the rest’ isn’t enough

Living like a queen for a week when you get paid then living like a peasant for the other 3 weeks I've always done it and it drives me mad!!

No financial education and parents that were unfortunately very bad with money. I do have some small savings now but they took me a lot of self-restraint and unlearning bad habits to build.

Everything is just so expensive , low pay, we don’t drive so we do top up shops at tesco expresses which are mega expensive, kids need new clothes all the time
