Any idea as to what to do on NYE in Rio? Any nice event to go to?

[NYE in RIO recommendation]

Hi there, Any idea as to what to do on NYE in Rio? Any nice event to go to? My hotel will be located very close to Lapa surrounding. I'd like to find a safe place to go to, as I was advised not to walk around in the crowded areas. One of the recommendations I had was copacabana beach. What do you reckon?

I am just also scared to not have any means of transportation back to the hotel ( I am guessing it would be all hectic that night ).

You have to see Copacabana fireworks at midnight. The biggest nuisance in the crowds is pickpockets (incessant - so hands on pockets at all times) and snatch-and-run (so attention when taking photos with phone, don’t bring a bag because it only draws attention).

In previous years, the metro remained open all night but you had to pre-purchase a ticket. Look into that. From Lapa, you would take the metro from either Cinelândia or Gloria.

The stations for Copacabana are: Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos, Cantagalo

It’s busiest around Copacabana Palace. There is usually a stage and shows there. Get off at Cardeal Arcoverde for this. If you would like room to move and some personal space, I would get off at Cantagalo and hang around Posto 5.
