Before we spend money on a new laptop, Does anyone know whether you can connect what is on the screen on a Windows 7 laptop to the TV, using an HDMI cable?
We have been trying for over 6 hours to connect the two following all the instructions we can find and cannot get a connection.
Any advice would be much appreciated?
Thank you.

Connect the HDMI cable. Then there is likely to be a button on the keyboard to press. It should be on the top row on the "F" keys.
You'll likely need to press the "FN" button and the "F" key at the same time to tell it to send signal to the HDMI port.

Unplug the HDMI and plug it back in look for source on your tv remote it should show on the tv the HDMI channels.
Presume you haven't got a manual - google the TV and model user guide or user manual and see an illustration of the remote control. On mine it says AV then click up or down with the arrows to one of the HDMI channels (mostly 1 and 2) but make sure you put the cable into the same slot on the tv as you've selected on the remote.
Of course, it depends on what's wrong with the laptop- mine was the screen backlight and it work fine connected to the TV until I couldn't switch the laptop on at all and the on-switch needed replacing then I decided to buy another laptop.
Should be possible. You just connect the cable to the tv and laptop then switch your tv onto the HDMI channel. What isn’t working?
Does the laptop have a HDMI port? If so, it should be as easy as plugging one end in the laptop and one end in the TV.
If not do you have a fire stick? If so, you can download software called miracast and stream it to the TV. This software works on your phone too
