Any tips to remove tile adhesive off plastered brick wall?

We have a double brick house and need to reno the bathroom. Has anyone done this and able to share the process, we want to tile some walls and paint the other walls.

Usually tile adhesive will come off plastered walls. However in the past there was epoxy adhesives used and these set like rock. I had the same problem and the solution was to remove the render and have walls rendered again before retiling.
