Love Italy! Best way to travel in Italy is by the trains! They drop you off in the heart of the old sections which is the tourist areas. Super easy to plan your trip by train in Italy! We did a trip from Venice to Florence. Florence to Pisa as a day trip. Florence you perugia.

Perugia to Rome. Rome to sorrento. Bus to positano. Ferry from positano to capri. Capri back to Naples by ferry. Naples we just walked around and ate lunch then got on train back to Verona. Verona to Venice flew out.

If driving, do not, repeat Do Not drive into a city center, unless you want to get a ticket in the mail when you get home, or months later.

Parma is an hour by train from Milan. Save $$ by buying tickets far in advance. Consider the non touristy Torino / Turin.
