One of our children is studying abroad in Florence for the spring semester and we want to plan a spring break trip with them. We are looking for somewhere outside Italy to do a week of sight seeing and some r&r.
Where would you recommend to go in late March/early April for a week that’s doable from Florence?
Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Perhaps head to northern Italy? If you are outdoorsy, you can actually cross the border into France via a gondola in the Alps from Italy!
Have you been to Barcelona? It’s a short flight and a great city.
How old is your child? Our exchange daughter from Firenze just went home. Italian high school is very, very different than what Americans typically experience.

Making a shift to the Middle East.
Would like to explore some but not all areas in Israel. This would be my second trip to Israel so would like to see unusual places.
Also, would like to see Jordan, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
What are your personal favorites and what would you not recommend??

So Florence has a LOT of tourism and a LOT of Americans. If you're not interested in exploring less touristy-parts of Italy (hopefully your kid will with some of their weekend trips), I would reccomend something that will have a really different vibe! Perhaps eastern or northern Europe if you're looking for beach weatjer then either Canary Islands or southern Greece/Malta.
