I'm looking for information on a great place to car camp (in a tent) in or near Banff National Park

A place that is central to all that there is to see and do in that area, and that has water and toilets at minimum (showers would be nice).

Car camp in a tent? So you want to tent camp? Any of the campgrounds around Banff would be good.

Stay in Canmore - not Banff. Canmore has a great brewery (food is just as good as the beer) more lively and MUCH cheaper. The drive to Banff isn't bad.

Keep in mind that Banff is HUGE. quite a bit bigger in land size than Yellowstone. So any place you stay, you’ll have a bit of a drive to get to some other specific location.

Car camping is illegal in banff national park (and all ntl parks I believe). Tons of registered camp sites though! Tunnel mtn, johnston canyon, lake louise, two jack lakeside all have showers.
