Ten days? Concentrate on north, south or central. Once you decide on region, you can be better provided with worthwhile answers. You don't want to be running all over the place with young children.
took my young kids to Venice (they loved visiting Murano and Burano), Florence (with a day trip to Pisa, Siena, etc), and Rome. If I did it again I wouldn’t try to cram so many cities into a few days.
We did this trip in 10 days each location we stayed 2-3 days. Flew into Venice took train to Florence. Day trip from Florence to Pisa. From Florence to train to perugia. From perugia went to Rome went back up by train to Venice. Must stop off in Verona on way back!
We’ve only did Rome and Amalfi coast with kids that age, they said that amalfi coast was AMAZING! We liked Rome, but it was hard to enjoy it because we were way to hot in June. Some of the tours were pure torture because of the sun and heat. So if you aren’t going in the summer, there is a lot to do in Rome. Also, they thought the Vatican and catacombs tour was the best and we visited everything.
We did 11 days and went to Venice, Florence, and Rome. No kids, and we were non-stop. With the kids you might want to eliminate one and just go to two cities. Also, Have the kids help plan. There might be something fun that they want to visit. Have fun!
I’d do Rome (3 days) then Naples (2 days) but day trips both days to Pompeii and Herculaneum, which I think the kids would love. Then 5 days either in Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast, depending on interests. Would be nice to have one base in those areas and do day trips by car or boat.
