How to dispose of insulin pens? Can they be tossed in the trash?

I have a dumb question.

We’re coming up on 28 days for my sons insulin pens. How are these to be disposed? Can they be tossed in the trash?

Only needles need to be handled with care (call your sanitation department for disposal rules). Used pens go in trash. I use them until they’re empty or don’t work well. But you’re brand new so follow your dr’s instructions.

Yes, but I use mine until they are gone (usually two months) I have never had one lose effectiveness.
