If you had one SE Asian city to stop in as part of a global circumnavigation which one would you choose?

For the experienced in the crowd: If you had one SE Asian city to stop in as part of a global circumnavigation which one would you choose? Looking to spend about 5 or 6 days, so convenient side trips and access to countryside (especially beaches and historic/cultural sites, but also nature) are mandatory.

Good international flight connections (especially direct to Hawaii) would also be a plus.

You could go into Kuala Lumpur (KUL), see the museums, then fly to Langkawi to see nature.

I have not explored so many, only 3 different countries, but I'd definitely say Hanoi Vietnam or Chiang Mai Thailand. Siem Reap Cambodia is nice, but not exactly as much I'd say. But people are absolutely great in Cambodia.

I was blown away by the Angkor region in Cambodia so I'd go to Siem Reap. I spent 3 days exploring the region and all the temples including Angkor Wat and I could have done more.
