my boyfriend and I will finally spend some months in SEA. We will arrive in bangkok on 1st of march, stay some nights there and then go to siam reap on 8th by bus to have some weeks in cambodia. After that we'd like to continue the journey from chiang mai/chiang rai to the southern thai islands in direction Malaysia/Singapore/Indonesia.

Anyone an advise what makes the most sense from Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville to get to Chiang Mai or close? All the flights are right expensive with backpack luggage and it seems quite uncomfortable to get first back to bangkok by bus and then take the night train to chiang mai. Any other options? Thanks and hope to meet some of you in the next months!

Why don’t you go from Bangkok to Chiang Mai by Nighttrain and from the North to Cambodia/the islands. It’s still a journey but in my eyes that’s smarter because the only really long journey would be from North Thailand to Cambodia / the South! But anyway I think you have to stop in Bangkok if you don’t wanna fly.

Greetings..

Chiang Mai has an international airport...make that your first stop and head south from there..
