I use a collection of data as they all provide pretty useful information.

GTMetrix is great for testing your website with specific filters such as browser, location etc.

Google CWV is great for seeing how well your website is doing in the eyes of google both mobile and desktop.

Pingdom is great for identifying bottlenecks and can often provide a good overview.

Test several tools, collect the data and issues, work through the issues and retest!

GPSI for CWVs and GTMetrix for general pagespeed, I include both for before/after reports.
