What are some tips on saving money for utilities such as gas in the winter and electricity in the summer and groceries?
Turn the thermostat down, only heat the rooms you use, line dry washing if you have a garden, even if they're not completely dry at end of day they'll dry quicker on an airer or in the drier.
Use an airfryer instead of the cooker. Use the microwave to heat up a cup of water for a coffee or tea. Unplug all stuff on standby like chargers and a microwave etc. Put draught excluders on all doors and around doors and windows. There is some new stuff I saw that draft proofs windows. Use thick curtains and pelmets. Put insulation reflection panels or cardboard with aluminium foil on behind radiators. If you can obtain free would get a log burner with a fan. We don't know what the weather is like where you live. Wash pots by hand don't use the dishwasher. Hang your clothes outside instead of using the dryer.
Wait till you have a full load before using the washer. Put the boiler on 60, if u have kids the thermostat on 18 (sorry don't know the conversion). As the minimum for kids. If not ... our place is quite well insulated so we have ours on 10 as we can tolerate that...
I fluck it to 11 or 12 if I am cold. So far used less gas and electric than last year. But its been milder. Snow today so heating on. Layer up in clothing. Sit with blankets when watching tv. Check you have the lowest tariff you can get. British gas (we are UK) are doing a peak time use less electric and we get paid for it scheme. Did my first yesterday. Turned off my cooker switch and alexa and didn't use anything for that hour.
