You can publish for free on Amazon. You can engage freelancers to design your cover or proofread or edit or what have you and pay a few hundred to a few thousand. You can also give thousands and thousands to a vanity publisher that cares only for how much money they can get out of you.

I went to book conventions to network and assembled a team over the years. Keep in mind that with proofreading, editing, cover art and formatting (unless you can do it yourself) can cost from $300-$700, $900-$1,500 with exclusive costume photos for cover art. but when pricing packages keep that number in mind while looking around at pricing.

What is your purpose with this book? Do you intend it to be a moneymaker? Is is something to leave for family? Is it a sales tool for something else? You need to know where the book is supposed to go before you know where to start.

Congrats! You need to decide whether you’re publishing traditionally (through a publisher) or independently (self-publishing). It’s a big decision, so make sure you do your research or talk to another author for advice. I also do consultations for this kind of thing if you want to hear the pros and cons of both (I’m a hybrid author so I’ve done both myself). Just PM me if you want to schedule something. Either way, good luck!

That’s get one thing straight. You are the publisher. Places like Amazon Draft2Digital and the like are formats that print and distribute your work for a fee. Being the publisher means you decided the cover, how the interior looks and every other aspect of your book’s publication. I have primarily gone with Amazon and for the most part I’m happy with them. But do your research and find the best fit for you. If you need someone to help you with formatting, cover art and such things reach out to this group, I’m sure there will be many willing to help.

I did hubby’s book eBook on KDP then did the formatting for paperback in Word. Saved to PDF. Fiverr for the cover. It was fun to do and I feel quite a bit of pride for my part of the effort when I hold the

If you haven't used an editor for a line/copy edit or at least a proofreader, I'd recommend that first. Then I'd create a cover with Miblart. Next, I'd research how to upload directly to Amazon KDP and Draft2Digital. You can create ebooks and print books without additional costs at both, which will get you in front of most online shoppers for books.

Going to a vanity publisher isn't self publishing and will cost endless money along a dark tunnel.
Learn how to use Amazon KDP.
