I am renovating quite a small kitchen, dining space

.. As I want to make the kitchen bigger it's doesn't leave much room for dining pushing it against the back door.. I am thinking about doing a bench style dining off the kitchen bench.. wondering if anyone has done anything similar?

You could extend a dining table off your kitchen if you have the space.

Or perhaps design a breakfast nook.
