My husband won a trip to Thailand in May.. So,

Post by Guest »

.. Don’t have details on exactly where we are staying (they haven’t been released) but it’s a company planned trip and they usually don’t spare any expense.

Can someone calm my nerves about food quality/water?

I have a history of food poisoning and I’m scared to death of getting sick!

What are do’s/dont’s as far as food AND water?

Use only bottled water for brushing your teeth, drinking and washing your face. Try to snag some travelan! I have the same fear and you can find it on Amazon (it’s out right now) and that should help with any stomach issues.

Tap water is safe in Bangkok but otherwise drink bottled. Food shouldn't be a problem. Antibiotics are over the counter should the need arise.

Drink bottled water. We ate all over Thailand and never had a problem with food. We ate everything from street food to fancy restaurant food. I totally fell in love with Thailand, can't wait to go again.

Call your doctor and get a prescription for Ciprofloxacina before you leave. It will knock out any issues that you have. Pepto is worthless against most issues.

Any respectable hotel will have safe drinking water in your rooms and at their restaurants. Otherwise definitely bottled water. We’ve never had any issues when we’ve traveled to Thailand. Even the Airbnb we stayed in a few years ago had large water jugs provided. You will love it!

I've never personally had issues with food in Thailand, but a few observations - you'll want to drink bottled water, of course, but I've never had an issue with brushing my teeth with tap water, even in places where the water quality wasn't great. Starting a probiotic regime a few weeks before the trip is a nice idea to build up your gut bacteria, and you can continue while you're on the road if you like.

You will most likely get stomach issues..accept that. Take travelers probiotics, keep pepto on you and only drink bottled water. It’s a BEAUTIFUL place with so much to see. I very very urge you to go to Chaing Mai! Bangkok is cool and it’s it’s own animal. Down south (Karabi) is beautiful but I wish I would have stayed in Chaing Mai longer.

Drink bottled water and make sure any food you are eating is HOT. I ate tons of street food and never got sick, but I did bite into something off a grill that was only luke warm and I spit it out and didnt eat it.
