Is there much we’re missing between the Ecuador border and Lima?

Hi, we’re travelling through South America in a couple of months, starting in Colombia and ending up in Brazil. We have a lot planned in Peru like Machu Picchu, rainbow mountains, Huacachina etc which is all south of Lima.

In my naivety, is there much we’re missing between the Ecuador border and Lima? Or are we best going straight to Lima once crossing the border?

Thanks in advance
Giancarlo

Máncora beach and surroundings are nice beaches with warm water, whales season now.

Then you could try to go Chachapoyas with beautiful waterfalls, the biggest ones in Perú and top 5 in the world.

Cajamarca, 2nf capital of the incas empire.

Trujillo, to see Chan Chan (UNESCO), the biggest clay city in America.

Huaraz to explore Huascarán National Park (UNESCO), beautiful lakes, peaks, glaciers,Chavin de Huantar (UNESCO), Chanquillo (UNESCO) and finally Lima.

After spending 2,5months in Colombia I thouth we can quickly pass through the Ecuador and we are already more than 2months here (the true is we spent 3 weeks at amazing Galapagos) but it is definitelly worth to ride accross the Ecuador and visit few cities, surrounding mountains, lagunas. Chimborazo and Cotopaxi vulcanes are spectacular. So diverse country.
