Do you mean a brush? If you mean clippers; you aren’t supposed to shave double coated dogs unless medically necessary. For my Huskies I just use a plain slicker brush. And high velocity dryer for blow outs/to get the excess loose fur.

The fact that a groomer cut the hair of a double coated dog is shocking and should be a huge red flag!! And no shame at all because I didn’t know this until I owned a GSD.

You should really consider finding a new groomer who is more educated. You never ever want to cut their hair! A double coat helps regulate their body temperature for HOT AND COLD so you taking that away from them will only make the dog hotter in the summer and freeze in the winter. Use a slicker brush and an undercoat rake to groom them. Both get a ton of hair out.

I had a retriever and brushed her every day. Never needed a groomer. I now have a cavapoo with constant growing fur, doesn’t moult, groom him myself. He enjoys our time together. Wouldn’t trust anyone he doesn’t know to groom him
