One row of tiles at the bottom of the wall, half wall or full wall tiles. Looking to save costs and wondering if tiled or painted walls would be better?
Thanks!
What's the standard way to tile a bathroom these days?
Re: What's the standard way to tile a bathroom these days?
Vj panelling is a great way to add lux to a bathroom but save some money.
Re: What's the standard way to tile a bathroom these days?
I'm going to DIY some painted wet area vj panelling to dado height in my bathroom, and only tile the floor and shower. That's partly for cost reasons, but I also like the aesthetic (for an old house in a more traditional style). Floor to ceiling tiles can be nice but can also feel cold and clinical IMO, a lot turns on the tile choice.

You can do it however you like. We have three metre ceilings so I tiled to about 2m high in the shower and along the back wall then did a 150mm high tile skirt along the other walls and painted them. I personally like having painted walls in the bathroom as it's a cheap and easy way to update and change the room after a few years without having to re-tile. I can also hang art there without too much fuss and drilling through tiles. I also personally find floor to ceiling tiles makes it look like a morgue but it's all subjective.

My (1990s era) bathroom has tiles halfway up the wall and it looks weird.
My new bathroom will have floor to ceiling tiles, it seems to be the current style

Re: What's the standard way to tile a bathroom these days?
We always regretted not doing floor to ceiling in old house, so did it this time round and love it. All comes down to budget. We have 3 bathrooms the 3rd will just be VJ and tiles in wet areas. I think Vj can give that lux feel

Definitely floor to ceiling. If budget allows .. if tight obviously choose cheaper tiles and not a complex pattern to save on labour costs.
Re: What's the standard way to tile a bathroom these days?
Floor to ceiling is the fashion bit it depends. I was in a floor ceiling bathroom of beige/brown chevron lay tile and felt hemmed in and claustrophobic. But in my houses we only went as high as the shower but that was because the layout meant it was broken by basins and bath so was easier to leave well enough alone.
But at least 1 tile and no architraves.
