Live in Texas it deffiently has bi polar weather. Last few years we had winter that like -4 degrees and cold record was -8 degrees. Most plants have tolerate to 28 degrees. Want know what sort greenhouse do people use to protect from freezing weather yet same time let heat out during hot summers.

Looking for recommendation of type green house to research into.

Want keep my plants alive in negative temperature yet not fry them during summer time?

I'm also in TX. Mine is used for overwintering cool crops (salad greens, brassicas), starting spring crops early, and extending summer crops into the fall. It sits empty in the heat. I have cattle panel trellises outside that get mesh shade tarps put on them to try to keep the garden a little cooler in spots, but in last year's heat/drought, nothing except sweet potatoes thrived.

I don't try to heat the entire hoophouse - when we get extreme cold, I put hoops/frost blankets over the growing beds and use heat lamps to keep the plants warm enough to survive. For nights when it gets just a little too cold, I have barrels of water that help maintain a more even temp (plants are on top of the barrels & I put a layer of frost blanket over the top to maintain a temp a few degrees above ambient).

Unless it's attached to your house an heated like another room there isn't a greenhouse that stays perfect year around.

I live on Mt. Rainier so we get our fair share of cold but our summers are getting to over 100°. I have found that having one that can handle summers is better because I just put a propane heater in the winter. I can't point you in the right direction of a brand because I built ours. Hope this helps.

I have the same question and my weather is much less extreme. I’m in CA, I impulsively bought my green house without considering the summer heat 100+ degrees. I’m Doing to try a quality shade cloth and tan, but suspect I’ll be removing all my plants for the summer. It’s just a very small greenhouse for me to put around in with my potting, succulents and seed starting, all hobby. I really wish their was a way to keep the temp way down that didn’t involve electricity.

Dual layer plastic with a fan/cool pads and a shade cloth for summer, and an appropriately sized heater for winter will do all 4 seasons.

Build a regular house, install AC and heat, use grow lights.

I am in Houston and have a Grow More. Kit with some of the thickest panels along with the most roof vents and a Dutch style door for ventilation. I added a large vent fan that is controlled by an Inkbird control when hits a max temp. I am able to get away with just a small “office” space heater on the coldest nights also controlled by the Inkbird. I also built a hinged drop down screen for the half door.

Lived in SETX with several greenhouses at different homes. No way to use in the summer, too HOT, even with fans, shade cloth. Summer would get to 110 degrees with all of this. Succulents did not do well in the heat either. It was on the north side attached to our garage or house.
