I have a question, I’m trying to help a page on my website to rank higher.

I want to create a blog post that supports the key word on my website page, get back links for the blog post, then have a link on the blog post that points to the site page.

Will that method help the site page rank?

Interlinking can help, but it depends which keyword are you trying to rank for, and how are competitors doing with the same search intend. You may or may not need a blog, you can also link items from home page or elsewhere in your site (i.e. a footer) ect, and this can be via text, image... If a blog is the best option go for it, add it in a subfolder under the domain (ie www.domain.com/blog) name the url correctly using KW there too, and do a bit of research on what kind of content would be the best, following the different stages on the customer journey.

It might. Could also be issue with the page, current internet site structure.
