.. and this affects them hitting their motor milestones like crawling and walking?
My baby is almost 1 and not crawling or walking yet. The health visitor advised us to see a drop in physiotherapist so off we went yesterday morning.
The physiotherapist said she isn't concerned as her core strength is there and understanding of commands (sit, roll over, come) she tries to crawl but hasn't quite got it yet.
She said that she has flexible hips and that's why her legs slide out from under her when she gets into the crawl position and that she's more bendy than usual.
I've never heard of this before has anyone else?? She said it does improve with age but I just thought it sounded strange haha!
Has anyone experienced their baby being 'flexible'
My daughter who did everything later had hypermobility. She walked at 16 month but only with lots of encouragement or I think it would have been a lot later.
]All children develop at there own pace.
Both my girls didn’t crawl until a year old and walked at 20/22 months ,but they could talk very well do jigsaws and loved books . Later on one went on to dance class and won medals.
So please don’t worry xx
They also had some Hypermobility.

My boy didn't start crawling till 1 and half and started walking at just before his second bday, he does have GDD and Autism with a few other conditions but all baby's are different hun, they will get there when they are ready, I got told not to compare to other children and the older siblings but I couldn't help it, and now he walks, crawls but hasn't said a word yet but he will when it's his time. Honestly is scary when they say they are concerned they are not hitting Milestones but to be honest from one visit to another he learnt to walk and crawl and they were shocked. Xxxxxx
My youngest son is 2 and he's never learnt to crawl, he took his first steps at 16 months. Even now at 28 months he's not steady on his feet, he can't run either. My son does bum shuffle but every child is different x
Hi my daughter has this and is 18 month she's only just started crawling try not to worry it just means they do things later reeva is seen by physio but we got her hitting milestones just a bit later.
My daughter before she was 1 used to commando crawl everywhere never shown any signs of crawling normally health visitor said babies who commando crawl tend to walk later than those who crawl normally nothing to worry about, said she’d check in again at 15 Months see if she was walking. January she finally learnt how to crawl properly then in the last 6 weeks has she been walking she’s 18 months now.. just be prepared when it happens it all feels like it comes at once.. then there is no stopping them lol x
Important to get this checked by someone who understands hypermobility and EDS, as if your child has EDS they will need physio and watching for related issues such as bruising easily, and in some cases heart and vein issues, gut issues and more. I'm not panic mongering here, its just good to be well informed as GPs, early care professionals and some specialists don't always join the dots. If there os an issue you can then advocate for your child for appropriate support. Look up swingback knees and have a look at how flexivle yout little ones thumb and finger jpints are. Is their skin quite loose or stretchy? All good indicators. Hypermobile folks make great dancers, gymnasts but can be prone to dislocations.
