Please help with our new deck. We decided to go with iron bark and after 2 layers of Cutek oil it looks like this.

We are very disappointed in how it looks and now regretting going with iron bark instead of merbau or composite decking. Is there any way to make it look nice?

Don’t mind the screws and gaps, we’re just in the process of rescrewing it with stainless steel screws to make it look a bit better.

I really like how it looks. Can I ask in what way exactly are you disappointed? What was your expectation that it should look like? (Pls not bring aggro just questioning) lol.

My deck is iron bark. It doesn’t look like this. But it was a red-brown when it went in and went a bit brighter after oiling. Was the timber aged before you installed. I think you just need to use a stained oil if you want the colour to change.

Just scrub it with reviver and a water blaster, never use oil again or craptip what ever it is. Use ultra deck merbau to get the colour you desire.

We have blackbutt and ours weathered like this too. We have tried 3 different oils, stains and ultra deck but ultimately haven’t got the ‘timber’ look we were after. Like you, we followed all the prep advice. I think it really depends on your climate - we’re in south east Qld.

Have a look at woca deck wash, not sure it would lift the cutek and then the woca deck oil. The deck oil is great I have used it on black butt and can’t fault it. Some videos online of someone rejuvenating a deck to give you an idea if you look for woca decking.

Do you have photos of the original colour? It looks completely faded now which is odd.

We have just had our 4 year old deck stained. I originally used Cabots. Our painter said it basically turps with colour. He used Sikkens, which is expensive, but looks fantastic.

Are you after a red look? How long have you had the cutek oil on for? If you used cutek oil clear it will let the wood weather and grey like this. If you are wanting to keep the red colour I would try washing with the cutek restore and then coat with a cutek oil with a tint.

This is how I actually want my deck to look! Will have to settle with my ugly painted merbau with current budget though!

It is a surprising decline for a sealed deck though.

This product is really good we use this all the time to revive timber decks before applying oil.
