My Kid gets no veggies or real meat

I have a four year old that has very certain foods for each meal. I try to not stress so much as my husband was an extremely picky eater until he joined the Army. I try to brush it off and tell myself he will still grow into a completely fine adult. However, I constantly have “mom guilt” about him not getting proper nutrition. He LOVES milk which might of been my mistake as a first time mom and giving into his requests for it. He eats either chicken nuggets, peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese, pasta and butter, hot dogs as “meals.” That’s about it. I have been buying organic whole grain chicken tenders and organic hot dogs as well as whole grain pasta to make myself feel better 🤦🏻‍♀️.

He had a mixture of fruit every morning for breakfast with cereal. My issue is that he gets no veggies or real meat. Yes, I have talked to my pediatrician who is not very concerned as he is in the 90th percentile for everything and is overall healthy. However, it does bother me tremendously. I feel we have tried everything to get him to try new foods and we do not take the route of pressuring him into eating what I make. Instead I almost automatically prepare him his own meal while also offering what I’ve made and trying to make it sounds exciting. He will not budge. I don’t believe in the idea of offering him food and if he won’t eat it then he does the bed hungry. I’m at a loss. My 1 year old eats anything and everything. Should I just keep doing what I’m doing or is there any advice someone can offer? Thanks!

If you haven't found them yet please take a look through the "Guides" section of the group (click the three lines in the top left corner of the page). You'll find a series of 3 videos put together by our group admins, all feeding specialists. This will familiarize you with our responsive feeding approach. Our admins don't recommend cooking him a completely separate meal, but rather including one or two of his accepted foods in the meal options so he doesn't view it as "my food" "their food". And I know it's hard but I'd stop talking up your meal. Kids are smart, they know we're talking up the food to try to convince them to try it, which tends to make them more resistant. Try to eliminate all food talk from the table. Good luck!
