Recieved an email today saying sorry we've been charging you wrong since October 2022 as their prices went up but due to an update fault their part on the meter and now I need to pay it back..

Do I really with it being their fault?

They have offered a 10% discount.

Any positive answers are welcome.

They are waste of space my meter’s aren’t working phoned engineers as they told me to 5 times have let me down saying no engineers in my area make another appointment and same happened so can’t put any money on either of them have wrote 6 letters to them and had them tracked so had to sun for them not one reply from them I have not been able to put the vouchers on we had the ball is in there court now what else can I do ask for help to sort it and they can’t even reply.

If they have admitted it is their error go to the ombudsman and show them. They will sort it for you. I had an issue a few years ago with mis billing. All in black and white so I won.

They are allowed to backbill for 12 months I'm afraid. Ombudsman would likely agree they can bill but would say they had to offer a gesture of goodwill, which they have done. However if you're unhappy with the resolution offered advise you'd like a deadlock letter so you can try the ombudsman. Strong likelihood they'll increase their gesture of goodwill to try to avoid you taking it to the ombudsman, as even if ombudsman agrees with them they still get charged.

They can back bill gas and electric if its under 12 months unfortunately. You could defiantly go down the complaint route with ofgem or the ombudsman and try your luck.

My daughter had the same problem. Billed her for 6,000. She took advice and they said they have to prove that they are wrong. It took three months to sort. And she was actually 400 pounds in credit. Tell them they should look into it again.
