The paper keeps tearing when trying to hang it on the wall. The paste is ready mixed good quality and says to soak the paper for 5 minutes before hanging. The paper isn’t thick but has reasonably good reviews.

What should we try?

We've never soaked the wallpaper, as soon as it's pasted it goes up.

I have always followed the waiting times but you should hang immediately if it is thin and tears easily.

If the paper is thin I would paste and hang as there is less chance of it ripping.

Paste the sheets . Then fold and only release each fold when you need it. That way it won't rip. You need to let soak because paper grows when it soaks and if you don't soak it grows on the wall and that's how you get overlaps.

Paste the wall.... if you do. laste thr paper hang straight away as it take over 5 mins to place it correctly anyway. Gives you the time to manipulate it

Tbh I don't think it's to do with the paste at all. If it's thin paper and you trying moving it as one long sheet it will rip. Paste a large section then fold it over slightly then paste the next section and fold. Then when transferring from table to wall hold the corners of all the sections together (IE not just the top of the paper. When you are ready to stick it onto the wall let it unravel slightly, stick the top to the top of the wall and smooth out working your way outwards and gradually work your way down, unravelling as you go and smoothing out as you go. If it's your first time then you may make some little mistakes as you gain confidence but stick (excuse the pun):with it and you will soon get the hang of it.

Good luck
