What is your experience - are French doors OK at keeping noise out?
French Doors. I'd really like to replace our standard internal double doors to my study with french doors as the study is the first room off our entrance.
I'm just concerned with sound proofing as on school holidays while I work I need it to block out a decent amount of 'kid noise'.

I have black French style doors and they are great but they are commercial doors not residential so I think this makes a difference.
I’ve been hoping the French doors are sound proof enough too as we are also putting them on our study but ours will be double cavity sliding doors. Can’t wait.
Ours are in our hallway, it's the study where the kids lounge and TV is. It's surprisingly good at dulling the noise.
I’ve repurposed a pair of doors from a recycling yard for my home office. The thicker, dimpled glass definitely gives me sound insulation (even with the television blaring footy in the adjoining room) but also privacy while allowing filtered light from the entry door.
I do phone interviews for my clients, so sound insulation is very important. You can get doors with glass specific to your noise insulation requirements.
It may be more expensive than off-the-shelf doors but definitely available.

I used solid French doors from Bunnings in my last house. Certainly kept the noise of 4 children out.
Ours are like the picture and quite sound proof. Maybe not as much as solid doors but worth it for the look. We used them in side by side lounge rooms and you could easily have both tvs on and not be bothered.
They are pretty good with noise reduction, I had them in our previous house, at the time we had dogs and they scratched at them often which was a nuisance and cleaning was not much more fun lol, in saying that I'd totally get them again as I love the look as well!
We have French doors like the photo throughout our house including the study, kids room and theatre room. They are great, don't really hear much at all.
