You’ll likely find yourself in Shibuya the most so I’d base myself somewhere around there. You dont need to be concerned about being “safe” in Tokyo. It’s likely the safest place you’ll ever visit. Hundreds of bikes left on the street without locks because there is practically no crime in that society that heavily values honor and respect.

Also another good area for Airbnb is Ueno next to Asakusa, great access to Narita airport with the Skyliner train and good connections to other major Tokyo spots via subway or JR Yamanote line.

Much as I like both Shinjuku and Shibuya for the big city vibes, best neighborhood for an AirBnb is probably Asakusa. It’s a beautiful older Tokyo that is much less frenetic than the other two.

It depends on what you want out of the experience - Shibuya is busssssyyy. I'm in Japan a lot and prefer a calmer vibe - look at Asakuza - older and more traditional. Fantastic restaurants and historical buildings.
