Is it too late to write and self publish a 30 day devotional for Mothers Day?
A full novel-length product, no. Short story, maybe. Even with a short story, you would be cutting the editing down. I would say, maybe, but it really depends on the scope of your project.
Unless you’re a prolific writer who can also edit like a professional, create a book cover like a professional, format the book by yourself, and have already attracted a few hundred readers to buy the book, the answer is no.
I created my fan base of readers 15 months before my first book published, interacted with readers, sought their advice, informed them about every step of the writing process, and piqued their interest in my first book by teasing them with small excerpts over graphic art. I discovered FB works for my genre and my reader demographics. However, Facebook doesn’t work for everyone. Some have better results with Twitter, or Instagram, their own blogs or websites, etc.
I’m finally gaining traction on Twitter, and I’ve gotten my books on over 50 websites in 3 years by publishing in online literary magazines and anthologies. There are a variety of methods to get the word out about your books; it’s up to each of us to find the marketing strategies that work for us.
