This could be a really silly question, but do I absolutely need a waterproof puffer jacket for Switzerland in early Dece

I’m backpacking and will be bringing with me a long leather jacket (very warm) and I’m wondering if I could just wear a sweatshirt under this for added layering and warmth instead of the puffer?

I plan to do the Top of Europe and some nice mountain walks, but I wont be doing a tonne of snow activities. I’m of course open to figuring out a way to bring one if I really do need it, however taking a puffer with me is going to take up so much space. Thoughts? Switzerland is also the last stop on my trip, so I could look at just buying one there - do they have an equivalent of Primark / cheap department stores closeby?

I’m going 2-9th December, and staying in Lucerne, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen.

Don’t buy in Switzerland. It will be twice the price than any other country on your trip.

1st of all Switzerland us not a cheap place! Just buy a thin lightweight waterproof jacket and wear layers. Google the average temp in December and make a decision. You should have enough clothes to add some layers. If you're walking then you'll warm up and probably not wear a jacket.

Will be wet for sure - best is to keep light - windstoper basic layer, waterprof shoes, rainproof jacket.
