.. Trying to get my finances in order before officially informed.

Have worked for company 4.5 yrs so will only get a month's pay. I am 51 years old  single person and worked for 34 years and have never claimed a penny from the government.

If it came to it and had to claim benefits how does it work with savings? Etc. ..should I pay a large amount of mortgage I'd I can Etc....

Just wanted to add I also had a accident at my workplace at Christmas when I tripped on a cable of a mobile heater someone had put up that was lose..but cable tied to a leg of furniture!!

, ended up with whiplash symptoms and possibly sciatica....I took 2 weeks off work after 3 days of struggling through pain, and still getting physio through work and I have not put a claim in etc can't believe they can just dispose of you just like that!!

Thank you...in a little bit of a panic and stressed.

Girl, you really should have put in an accident claim.
Do as soon as possible.
Try get CCTV on incident.
Also, medical reports.
You're entitled to loss of earnings etc.
May as well be in your pocket as theirs.
Then address other.

There's a.benefits calculator on money saving expert that's free to use to give you an idea what you can get. Savings will affect your benefits, if you pay savings off your mortgage they may still class it as savings.

I was in a similar position years ago and registered with a few recruitment agencies who found me temp work until I found something permanent, so never actually had to claim benefits. Good Luck

If you can clear your mortgage then I'd do it as one less thing to worry about.
So long as it's cleared before you're made redundant then the benefits won't be affected.
However if this a planned redundancy you may have a few months before it happens .

So, with the hols you've accrued and not yet taken this year (calculated from when your employer does their hols,- mine does from.1 Jan to 31 Dec), the paid 4 weeks notice, the 1.5weeks pay for every full year you've worked for them - even if the worst to worst and they do announce redundancy without attempting to move you to a diff role within the business or you may avoid redundancy if it's a last in first out scenario (which employers tend to favour as the less tenure an employee has the less it costs to make them redundant) - then you've got at least another 2+ months wages to come.

Couple that with the knowledge for the first time in many decades it's an employees market out there presently- the sheer volume of job vacancies is unreal. Please try not to panic. You've got this.

I don’t know if it still applies but you used to have to have 12 weeks notice if you were being made redundant not working anymore so don’t know if it still applies if you weren’t given 12 weeks you were entitled to the ,only instead

Very easy to get another job at the moment as most places have staff shortages, you sound like a worker so should have no problems, stay positive you will be fine.

Please don’t clear your savings, they only effect benefits over 6k, if it’s over that and you get rid even on your mortgage it will be viewed as you depriving yourself of capital in order to claim.

Google ACAS and call them for genuine advice. Wish you well.

I would suggest you put a claim in as it’s classed as industrial injury. So should you be incapacitated, hopefully you’ll get a small help for life.
