Our car is just over 1 and started going out for short spells and beating on the front and back door when she wants to come back in.
I’ve just had a cat flap installed and would love some tips on how best to help her use it.
Thanks in advance
Tips please on how to train a cat to use a car flap
For an older cat tape the flap open so she can get used to going in and out of. Once she's used to going in and out then gradually reduce the open flap, but try and get it on tape so she can come and go (does that make any sense?) till she's OK with making her own way.
Saying that I grew up with a cat that point blank refused to use a flap and would climb up on the porch and hang off the door bell till someone let her in.
And now I have a dog who spends a lot of his time with his snoot stuck out of the cat flap, which kid of deters the cat.

I had the same issue with my 3yr old cat when I moved. I tied the cat flap open, to the door handle, when I was home, and then started leaving it tied open when I was at work too.
Then one day I caught her using it to go out/come back in without me tying it up so since then, it's her problem haha (p.s. no other animals can get in to our yard/garden area due to high walls).

If there outside don't open the door lift up the flap yourself till they come in, try treats something nice like tuna, only took my cat a few days to get it, if you know there there just shout from inside, the more you keep opening the door the more they wont use it xxxx
Of my 2 cats... The one that was most motivated by food (aka being served on the inside of the flap) learnt the fastest. They will work it out. Meanwhile enjoy taking lots of videos of them being stupid battering the flap with limp paws whilst you can. So funny.
