I've managed to get myself into £1000 worth of debt with British gas. It there anyone I can go to to help?

You need to contact them regarding debt management. They will probably refer you to Step Change who will look at your income and expenditure. You also need to look at reducing your usage. You should also consider a prepayment meter as the debt can be set at a minimal recovery rate. Are you in receipt of benefits? If so, you should receive the first cost of living payment which can be used to reduce your debt.

May I ask where you live? As your local Council may give u some Help. From Housing support Fund. And Turn 2 Us , Step to Change , Income Max are all very good , CAB or Leap etc can also advise. Plus your energy supplier . And depending on your circumstances are you on The Priority Service Register. It is good to inform your Utilities of any Physical or Mental Health or Disability issues . Wishing you all the best x

Are you claiming everything you are entitled to. Even if you are working there may be certain benefits you are entitled to. Also, may be worth seeing if your local authority has any support available. Local authorities have been given extra funding to help those most in need/struggling in the current financial crisis.

Have you asked about British gas trust. They help pay off some debts themselves.
