Finally off the bucket list. If you are doing both castles...I left Fussen 2 hours before my entrance to give me plenty of time to walk up to Neuschwanstein. Booked Hohenschwangau 3.5 hours after to give me time to walk to the bridge and get this shot before walking up.

112 floors and over 7 miles.

Totally worth it.

The bridge was close when we went there😫 it was end of February 2020 just before they declared pandemic and there’s still snow. For safety reasons ,they closed the bridge so I didn’t have a photo from that vantage point.

There’s nothing like Neuschwanstein!
I lived in Frankfurt in my youth and have been inside twice over the years. The last time we went, we stayed in a B&B simply for the view of the castle. And that was completely worth it too!

We went in April and I took my 3 year old daughter. She loved them both. There are very nice hiking trails around there in the mountains. Skipped the boring bus ride and hiked the hour or so back to fussen.

Totally worth the detour.

Jealous. When I went, the bridge was closed for repairs and the castle closed. Still found amazing cadtles to see along the Romantische Strasse, though.

I agree totally worth it. I'd go back and visit it again. Didn't get to the Eltz Castle, although saw plenty of others. Now I need to go back and visit it after viewing the website.
