I dont mind it to be honest I'd sit there quite happily. The only thing you might do is change to a different side table or take some of the decor on the hamper/ basket away to create sleek look but really I'd be happy enough as is. Sitting there with a rug on and a candle going would be blissful.

Move it all to the side so that you can open the shutters again.
Pull the rug outwards and change the dark navy throw to something lighter.
Choose 3 things only for on top of the box.
Otherwise, lovely

Remove rug, replace with larger one, remove cushions and put 1 plain one on the chair, place a larger softer picture on the wall, and take away cane table and place small uncluttered coffee table there.

This is my little therapy corner. Try removing some of the items. The rug the tray and maybe a lighter throw rug.

Too many things in the space.
Remove the rug (too small)
Remove the basket
Nice wall sconce or ceiling fitted rattan chandelier for reading
Floating shelves with interesting books..
Plain cushions, smaller delicate throw…

Hey 😊 I have learnt that ‘hot messes’ generally stem from ‘too much’. Too much clutter, too much of one or two things, too much color…could be a number of things. I always find the best thing to do is pull the whole lot out (yes everything!) and then stand back and start with placing the main piece (the ‘hero’) where you want it. Would probably be the chair here? Then add the next most important piece (the lamp maybe?) and gradually add in a few other things, standing back as you go and really assessing what is pleasing to the eye and what ‘feels’ calm and welcoming to the eye. I believe the idea is to achieve something we love with the most minimum amount of items. Less is best
