New issues with getting a Sim card in Europe

Apparently a SIM card inserted into your phone changes your phone number. This would be a problem for hotels that have my number for the trip in contacting me. Can my regular number be forwarded to the new number for text updates and phone calls?

I understand there is an E-SIM you can download on your phone. Will this allow me to keep my phone numbet? Do these work on androids?

Thanks to everyone who helped me decide if a 5G would work in Europe.

Google your phone and eSim. See if it is compatible. If so, super easy to buy and install. I used Airalo for the first time this summer and so easy. Their website walked me through each step to activate on my phone.

LOL...that is the way it works...nothing new You give the hotels your new number. No big deal.

WHATSAPP or FB messanger are all you really need overseas. I rarely take calls on my home # anymore.

If your phone supports DualSIM, you can have both a SIM and eSIM active at the same time.

I take along an old phone (not too old but works) and use it for the new sim. With ESIM, I think you can switch back and forth but I haven't had recent experience.

Get a virtual phone number such as Google Voice, then your number stays the same (for voice and sms) no matter which device or sim you're on

Depends on your Android phone. Check if your phone supports eSIM but that would be the best way. Also, never had a hotel contact me by phone, just by email, so definitely not a deal breaker
