Our little girl has just been diagnosed with a heart condition, which means she is on a lot of medication. She is 5 and very active. At the moment I'm glued to her side and I'm not ready to leave her just yet. But in the near future I'm going to have to and return to work.

So I what I'm looking for is recommendations for medical alert bracelets that you can customise with her condition and all the medications she is on, incase anything happens and me or dad isn't there.

I found the best place to get one was Etsy, my conditions are difficult to put into one word and I found someone who did personalised. I now have a tattoo but the bracelet was a godsend x

No advice on ID bands but please look up Team 1C. It is a fairly new charity which was cofounded by a friend of mine who's daughter had a heart condition. They help children with heart conditions all over the world so they may be able to help you further.

Heart Mum here! My daughter had OHS when she was born and will be turning 5 at the end of the week. These heart warriors are amazing! I recommend the silicon rubber band style ones. Put main meds and then hospital info so they can contact them in an emergency.

Also side note: not sure where you are based but I volunteer for an amazing charity HEART HEROES that are based all over the UK. They have regularly coffee meet ups and events that are completely free for those whose children have heart defects. The kids have a blast and the parents get to be around others who 'just get it' as they've been through similar. Also great for asking questions, like your original post. I'm based in Oxford, we meet once a month and our hub families are good friends now.

Just to reassure you my heart warrior is now 11, he had open heart surgery at only 8 days old. He plays football, runs, has a very active and ordinary lifestyle and is currently in France with school kayaking down rivers, zip lining and generally having the time of his life thinking of you at a very scary time xx

Heart mum here. We have a fabric one from MedicAlert for our daughter, which she can wear for PE/dance classes as well. Limited info on the bracelet itself with a number to call. All medical info stored online, can upload all her letters with relevant diagnoses & updates. Lists of medications etc, which can be updated whenever so all relevant up to date info available to medical professionals. You can get a credit card sized card with medications and conditions on too to keep on her. Has my contact details on too. Good luck on your journey. The heart world is amazing, so many supportive families out there.

I’m a heart mum to a 14 year daughter born with hlhs and unbalanced avsd ( first heart operation at 7 days old).

I know our children have a different heart defect but if you need to moan or just to chat please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I know this isn’t any comfort but since having my daughter I’ve met some lovely heart parents who welcomed me into the heart community so please never feel that your alone because your not.

All the best to your family and special heart warrior.

If you have a iPhone, you can put all the information in the Medical Emergancy part including medication etc, so if anything happened to you while you were with her they will be able to access it all and whoever you dedicate for your Emergancy contact for them to ring

To all you wonderful mums on here, you are amazing and so strong. I'm a 43yr old with tricuspid altresia, and my mum has a been amazing when I was growing up, in and out of hospital, and various operations. I now have two healthy children of my own.

I'm really naughty and don't wear a medical bracelet, but everyone knows about my condition and that I take warfarin. I carry a medical card in my wallet and my parkrun bracelet has "heart defect take warfarin" written on it.
