Hi everyone.. I have a kind of odd question.

My 5 year old black lab got spayed when I adopted her last August. That being said she has had two litters with her previous owners who bred her. - she has a quite large vulva because of this.

My question is why do fixed male dogs still try to hump her? No matter what male dog we meet they are face deep in her hoo-hah and once they get a good whiff they try to hump non stop. She does NOT like it and of course defends herself. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent this? She clearly does not like it and will snap if her boundaries are not respected by these fixed male dogs. What can I do to help my girl?

Ask the owners of said misbehaving dogs to control their animals.

Humping isn't always a reproductive action. It is a sign of high excitement and could be a show of dominance. Females will also do this in these circumstances.

Try buying an air horn and using it when a dog tries to hump your dog and you’re unable to separate them.

How long has it been happening? Sometimes it can be a sign of an incoming UTI or just the male dogs either bullying or being over excited and poorly socialized. It’s ok if she snaps at them, it’s her way of telling them to back off, if course you don’t want her to have to do this so always back her up and if you notice a dog sniffing her to long step in between them and nudge the dog away, help her claim her space.

Did she have a spay operation or an OSS? If it was an OSS, she still goes through cycles and can’t have puppies. If a dog ties with her it can cause internal damage.

One day a real fight might happen over them not respecting her boundaries. If male owners can’t respect your or her boundaries then you shouldn’t put her in a situation with them. I know it’s easier said than done.
