My husband wants to put a shipping container in our backyard to use as storage for his mini BCF store he’s got happening- BUT before I will agree to this I’m after some ideas to make it look good externally, otherwise there’ll be this ugly monstrosity that’s going to do my head in!

Happy to paint, happy to work with any logos etc and make it rustic, decorate, grow something on but I really would like it to look like it belongs and make a feature of it.

I haven’t been to look at any yet as once I do my husband will think he has the green light.

I’ll be able to choose what ever I like (colour, signage wise ) or have the supplier look out for something that appeals.

Hit me up with ideas.

Pinterest is not helping as it’s all house and pool conversions and I’ve already got the inside sorted.

We have a chewing dog and a leg cocking dog in our yard also!!

Thank you
Beck

We painted ours monument, and then put in plant runners, and have passion fruit and jasmine growing on two sides. The doors face the back of the property and the other side is getting a sliding door and paved fire pit area off it.

If you're in or around Brisbane, I know where you can get them for a great price and it's a legit company that specialises in container supply and delivery (ie not one of those dodgy scam mobs).

Maybe just go for a good old ‘distressed’ corrugated iron shed with a gabled roof.? Grow climbing plants like sweet pea and roses on and around the door..

We had a shipping container at our previous house. It was meant to be temporary but ended up being long term.

After awhile it just became an eyesore. Having it away from the house would be my suggestion. Painting it and having some nice plants around it would be an improvement.

Careful where you get it from - there’s lots of scams on marketplace that tell you that you can have whatever colour, configuration etc. Buy from a place where you can physically see the product.

Timber slats. Stained or painted.

Best check with your council before you move one on to your property. Some council class them as a class 10b which requires a drawing and certifier. Last cost to move one on my property for junk storage was $1100.

Black then cover it with star jasmine. Let us know when he has a sale so we can pick up some camping equipment  :D

Hard to see but mine is covered in timber slats (left in the pic). Doesn't actually even look like a shipping container!

My hubby wants one as well, paint will be your best friend, you could add cladding, a deck, bifold doors, run vine up the front to add softness. I just used google images, might also be worth investing cabin/sheds as conversion of container may get expensive.

You will need to find out what the rules are in your area. Someone complained about ours and a government representative paid us a visit stating that we cannot have one as it is considered an unapproved building unless we have a DA in place and we actually did. Provided evidence and they politely left.

Does it need water proofing? Are you going back to frame or going over the existing walls and floor.

You can check also: Should you lay floor tiles before or after installing a new toilet?
