We are thinking about doing a trip very soon to Southeast Asia in the Summer once we figure out what points to use to get us there. Curious what the deal is with vaccinations and malaria tablets that I've read on.
The countries we are considering are Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, possibly Laos and also maybe Japan (even though that's not part of SE Asia, we may fly into Japan or out of it).
I didn't really think about this until just coming across it online and I want to know what's really required and advised when traveling to these countries for short periods of time.
Appreciate any suggestions.
TIA!

AFAIK it's not required, but recommended. I got eaten alive by the mosquitos in Cambodia and Thailand. Not so much Vietnam. My wife still laughs at that memory because I was covered head to toe in bites. The tablets are super easy as I recall. Start taking 1-2 days before arriving in the area where malaria is prevalent and keep taking for 7 days. Provides protection for up to a month afterwards I think.
Unless you’re going for extended sojourns in the jungles, you’re ok skipping the malaria pills.

Definitely no need for malaria tablets unless you're going to be out in the wilderness for extended periods of time. There aren't any vaccinations that you'll need for immigration purposes, though I'd skim through the CDC website to see what they recommend:

When I went to Thailand and HK, I didn't do anything for malaria but I did get the typhoid series.
