Both my girls rooms smell awful
Help! Everyone said pine pellets with hay over and the litter box won’t stink. Both my girls rooms smell awful. We empty and clean litter boxes twice a week. I cannot stand for my house to smell. What are we doing wrong?
I clean everyday, I’ve tried pine pellets and switched cause it was too stinky, tried using news paper in the bottom with hay over top instead. Also got an air purifier. No smell anymore.
I clean my mini girl every 4 days and my mini boy every other day, but they don’t really start to stink, I replace it when it’s broken down but it’s not very smelly, definitely not in the area of the house they’re in.
The smell and how intense/quick will depend on how much urine they produce compared to the amount of pellets in the box. You may need bigger or more boxes, or to change them more often

Is your box too small? Maybe there's not enough pine pellets to absorb all the pee? Just do a thin layer of hay, with a pile on one side, and then the bottom of the box should be covered with a layer or two of pine pellets. Have an air purifier as well.
I have two buns (Netherland dwarf & Holland lop) in my bedroom and it only starts smelling at the end of the week, I clean their litterboxes once a week.
Are you sure you're not bothered by the smell of hay?
Don't miss: Our 8 year old labs breath is starting to smell. Any ideas how to help this?

I find mine smells after 2 or 3 days so I fully empty every 2 days. It never smells with that routine I've noticed. That's with 2 bunnies on pine pellets and hay in hay bag.
Only cleaning the litter boxes twice a week could be the issue, mine starts to stink if it goes more than 2 days and i only have 1 dwarf rabbit.
Clean them out as often as possible and see if that helps!

I use the pine pellets in my rabbits litter box and we've had no issues, in fact I prefer it to the shavings. My boy is not neutered yet, but these things do wonders.
Maybe it's the brand you are using or how often you clean it? My boy gets his done every 3 days and we haven't had too much issue. But any less and it can start to have a smell. But also. Good ventilation is helpful too

Mine has never smelled! I do a quick scoop out every morning and evening (seriously,a 45 second job). Then I clean with vinegar and water spray once a week.
I’ve a corner litter tray for my netherland dwarves. They have pine litter non clumping. The cat uses the same. Doesn’t ever smell and they use it fine. Don’t even have hay in the box.
Also, check out: I see a lot of your buns that lay over when they sleep and even close their eyes

I'm using a carbon liner, pellets and shavings in the litter box. I clean every day and I have 1 Netherland Dwarf.
I keep my hay in a tight sealed bin. That was adding to the smell. I change 2 times a day but I have 8 bunnies.
I also have 2 air purifiers which did wonders!

I have 16 use pine pellets and hay clean weekly but I also soak their pans in vinegar during each cleaning. Also you can add ACV Bragg's raw to the water helps with strong urine odor. I use one cap of ACV to one gallon of water.
