I hope I am not the only one who prefers a stvetop on kitchen island instead of a sink.

Thanks

I prefer my sink and stovetop both off my island. Nothing makes me happier than a completely clear island bench! I also have a young family though.

I prefer the island to have neither.

Hello! Here's mine. I was adamant about this. My partner is a Chef and I love to cook. The island looks out at the dining room and living room as well as our beautiful canal view. I wanted the chef to have a social place, as well as a view while cooking.

Never had a safety issue... Nor any inconvenience by doing this.

Useful: About to build and am considering a Pot filler tap above our stove. Has anyone got one what are pros and cons?

I love my freestanding stove within island bench. It makes the area flow nicer in the way that we don’t have our back to those in the living room or at dining table when cooking.

I love mine where it is, wouldn't have it any other way. It faces the living and dining room, I can see and interact with people whilst cooking. People will ait at the bench, no issues with food burning anyone.

I have induction so when I'm not using it the space doubles as extra bench space for prepping etc, just put a tea towel down.

I am very lucky have a nice big island. Cook top on the back bench, and sink up one end of island. LOVE love Love having a plain island with nothing on it!!!

I would 10000% put it in the island. It is game changing! Consider your island depth but I don’t find it effects people sitting at the island at all! Would never have it any other way.

B.T.W Don't miss: Can anyone who has a huge deep kitchen island let me know if it’s a pain to keep clean?

We have a downdraft induction by Neff and I absolutely love it! It is in our island, will take a photo when I get home.

My mother had a 10 x 10 kitchen. The side that faced the breakfast room was a peninsula, and in the peninsula was her electric cooktop. She sat on one side of the peninsula, and I sat on the other, watching the food cook, listening to her descriptions. There was about 4 inches of formica surrounding the cooktop - no overhang, and no where to put a barstool or counterstool. Oh my, what talks we had and what a great way to learn to cook! I never got burned or splashed.

We’re planning to have our induction cooktop on our bench- hubby loves cooking & we love entertaining- we’re getting the Bora Pure with built in downdraught - can be circulated outside or u can recirculate at the base of the cabinetry . Flushed into benchtop.

They love putting the stove top on island benches in the American Reno shows. I can't think of anything more impractical. The mess, the fat spattering allover everything else on the bench, and most of all how dangerous it would be with or without kids.

Love it 90% of the time, the other 10% is when I want everyone out of my kitchen but they feel its such a communal space and want to hang around.

We did it this way so that I could enjoy the view, have people sitting around without my back to them and my kids can see all the steps to cooking and hopefully make them want to have a go (it worked!).

Now I cam sit watching them and instruct them but still not have to stand behind them... they feel more independent.

Also, check out: I am trying to find pendant lights for above a 3.5 meter island bench

Me personally wouldn’t want a stove top on the island.

People sit around the island and the food would splash and burn them. Kids won’t be able to sit at it, too dangerous. Plus you will have to have flu above your island.

Also consider resale, I wouldn’t buy a renovated or new home with it this way, as I would have to spend $$$$ moving it.

Definitely consider width of bench if doing this. I’ve had island bench with stovetop and was always worried about the safety of my children and others including adults (never enjoyed entertaining over it) as the benchtop wasn’t wide enough for my liking and neither was the walkway around it to rest of kitchen- stovetop had been placed at end of bench.
