We booked a trip to Portugal, and it's looking like the airport and train systems will be on strike while we're there. Lucky us! Any tips from those who have experienced strikes during vacations before?

Same when I was in Portugal. Check for monuments strikes and plan accordingly. When we went to Sintra everything was closed and we realized we should have gone at the start of the trip.

Also maybe have a backup car booked to go between places. I know a couple who has to last min book so they could drive to Lagos. And definitely arrive early for any transportation.

I just came back from Portugal. Uber is prevalent and inexpensive. A company called Bolt (download their app) is similar and even more reasonable.

I don’t like to give a negative feedback, but I had a bad experience returning to Florida from Europe last March because of a strike.

My best advise for you is to pay attention to the flight changes if any, and choose a layover in the states even in that flight is longer than other options.

I had another experience while in Paris, same trip, metro was working but because of the strike I took it for 2 stops and there were 5 stops closed, so, what I did was just got off the train in the first Available, put the address in the map and it sent me to another route within the same metro terminal. I spent about 30 more minutes but I was able to made it to the hotel.

And I remember among all this disturbance, Uber was working with pretty well service.

Don't miss: Anyone just come back from Portugal recently? Were you affected by the train strike?

We live in Portugal. We take redeexpressos buses or other bus companies when this happens. Easy to book online, download the app.

We heard Lisbon airport can be a pain during strikes, but we don’t ever have issues with Porto.

Strikes are so common all over Europe this time of year, just do alternate transport when here. They also use bolt and Uber. Also it’s only the big trains that usually get affected by strikes, not the city trains.

Explore these too: Can anyone recommend toddler friendly hotels o stay in Lisbon and Algarve?
