I've been hearing a lot about GD starting to mine docs for content/training AI on our works and want to move my works onto something where that can't/won't happen.
However, I don't want to have my works locked behind a paywall(like with Microsoft word -- because I've been burned my it before)
Tech minded friends, what's a good alternative to Google docs?
Well, companies have to make money. They either have to charge you, or you are the product. One or the other is going to be true.
I use Google docs and it's fine. They even recovered things that I accidentally deleted.
Suggested: As a beginner, Google docs or Apache OpenOffice?

If you are working off your own computer and don't want to go with Microsoft, then Libre Office is free and excellent, whilst for writing books, Scrivener is cheap and superb.
Just don't forget to manage your own data backups (although you should do that anyhow, even if using a Web solution like GD).
B.T.W. You can check also: I've lost about 10pages of my work on Google Docs
