I went away (not holiday as can’t afford one) on 2nd July and read my IHD which said £2.92, this was as I left the house at 09:52 returned today 16th July at 16:54 and IHD shows £21.56 so £18.64 used just by fridge/freezer & wifi.

I turned the TV of at wall and also the microwave and electric cooker off at plug leaving only the fridge & wifi on.

I appreciate the standing charge is included in that but it just goes to show that even being away and not using hardly anything is costly. There was I while at my sons thinking wow I’ll be saving quite a bit on my electric!

Also, while away I got an email from the infamous UW thanking me for renewing my insurance with them when I hadn’t even agreed to it, no email and no post to see as I was away! Rant over.

PS. I had set my fridge to holiday setting and have just put it back to eco….

14 days standing charge for me would be £8.54 so that's almost half of the usage the rest works out at 72p a day.

I think that cost is very likely to be true. Like Ian said, a massive chunk of it now is SC and just your fridge and Wi-Fi will account for the rest. Long gone are the days of cheap electricity I’m afraid!! Have you any idea what you normally show on an ‘at home’ day?

When we was away our use was £2 plus standing charge per day -- that was fridge freezer and fish tank. Everything else including internet was off

Insurance renewal letters should be sent 3 weeks before and state if they're auto renew.

Did you turn temp down on fridge (guessing you didn't have much in there) we always do and hardly any electric gets used (just SC).

.64p in a 24 hr period, equals .02p an hour, taking off standing charge.

You IHD is probably wrong. I had one that would estimate what my usage was based on what my usage had been. Did you do a meter reading before you left?

Around £7.00 of that will be the standing charges for 14 days. That’s leaves £11.64 or 83p a day for consumption.
