Does any of you passed your driving test and didn’t drive til after a year or more?

I wanna know your thoughts as I realised I can’t afford to have a car at the moment and I just passed my driving test.

Thanks

I passed my test in June, the insurance is disgusting and it's that that's stopping me from getting a car! I really wanted 1 by the 6 weeks holiday but I just can't justify the insruance ! Xx

I didn’t drive for 3 years after passing my test as couldn’t afford a car. It’s surprising how it just comes back to you.

I didn’t have any refresher lessons and started driving in a city when I’d learnt in a small town.

Don't miss: My daughter is learning to drive with her test in February

I passed my test when 18 but couldn't afford the insurance til I bought my first car for my 21st! Had a couple of refresher driving lessons and cos I was qualified he took me on the motorway which was really helpful! All comes back to you, like riding a bike!!

Even if you can’t afford a car is there a car you can use that you can drive? You need to build up experience.

I’m waiting for my car, it’s going to take months, longer than I anticipated, I think I’m going to have 2, 1 hour lessons a month just to keep it fresh in my mind until my car finally arrives x

If you don't drive for a while and feel you need a refresher a lot of instructors would take you out when you are ready just to build your confidence. It will obv cost you but you would only need an hour or two so be worth it. Congratulations on passing.

I drove my parents' car for two or three years after passing my test but then didn't drive at all for around 8 years. When my partner bought a new car I took three lessons with a BSM instructor before driving it to get back into the swing/get my confidence up.

My partner passed in December and didn't get a car until May. Insurance was still expensive for the 1st year. We also had help from his dad to get the car which was an old car (2007 make and he had it in 2017) as I was due my youngest in the July

I didn't drive for around 18 months. My mum picked up my car I bought and took me for a lesson to build my confidence back up. I remembered how to drive but glad i had the support to regain my confidence.

My daughter passed then went off to uni for 3 years in a city so didn't get a car or drive. After this she started driving a bit and then was also driving ambulances.
