Did we get the wrong insulin?
My boyfriend used humalog vile of insulin incase of pump failure the doctor gave him insulin pens but the pens are lantuis should he have got humalog pens?
Yes! Lantus is long acting but humalog is fast acting. Definitely don't want to switch those up.
You need Lantus since it’s long acting, in case of a pump failure. The pump takes the place of long acting right now, so if the pump fails, you need it. Since he already has fast acting humalog in vials for his pump, he could just use a syringe to administer that but he needs the Lantus long acting since he doesn’t have any.
I don't think some people are reading your question properly cos a lot of replies are misinformation.
If your boyfriends pump fails then he will need to use the Lantus as his background insulin and inject that once (or twice, depending on how he does it) per day as it lasts 24 hours. That's his background insulin.
He should also have Humalog pens that he should use to inject whenever he eats x
Don't miss: I will be using an insulin pump for the first time, the doctor gave me these options:

They gave him the correct insulin. Just like you said it’s for pump failure therefore if his pump stops functioning he will have his long acting insulin to hold him incase of that issue.
My Endo also prescribed me Lantus in case I ever had pump failure.

Humalog will go in his pump, if on a pump he shouldn't need a long acting insulin (like lantus). If he is off of a pump, unless he wants to give himself small, frequent (every 1-2 hours) injections of his Humalog insulin, he will need to take (usually about 1/2) or whatever his pump gives him for his Basal insulin.
Lantus is a basal insulin usually taken once per day.
Explore these too: I accidentally injected my Lantus twice a few hours ago. Any suggestions on what to do/expect?

No. He will need long acting if his pump fails. Unless he wants to inject tiny amounts of humalog every hour. We have to have background insulin.
Lantas lasts 24 hours. Humalog 3-4 hours. The pump gives a little bit of humalog every hour. You wouldn’t want to have to do that manually so you would do 1 shot of Lantas.
If a pump fails you new T start MDI, you need to start long acting insulin to cover non meal needs 24/7 in addition to the Humalog to cover food or corrections.
