I'm with E.ON pay as you go for just electric and it is costing me between £400 and £500 a MONTH
I use oil for my heating and hot water, don't have an electric shower or electric fires/heaters.
I have contacted Eon asking if there may be an issue as this seems extortionate but they said it is about average these days.
There are 4 of us who live in my house but my son is out at work 5 days a week, my daughter is usually in college and I spend about 16 hours in bed sleeping as I am chronically ill.
We don't have a telly just use our tablets or phones. we do each have a computer but mine only gets used about 2 hours a day, washing machine, tumble drier, large fride and freezer, dishwasher and we have a water pump to get water from the well.
Just wondered if anyone else was having to pay huge prices like this?

Maybe a silly question but are your bills based on actual meter readings? This seeks high and wondering if your being estimated?
You don’t have an immersion in the water tank that has been left on do you?
I am similar to you, oil heating, dishwasher, dryer, washer, pond pumps, hot tub, fridge, freezer. Before we had solar we were about £250 a month in electric but I was on E7 and made best use of that including using the immersion for water instead of oil.
Don't miss: I tried to submit a reading and the E.ON app said "hmm that seems a but low for gas

Are you sure you are not paying for something else as well as your home if across the road in a shed.
Tumble dryers are leathal for bumping up electric. Mine is always double on usage if that’s on in day. I’m on my own but in all day. Use laptop. TV no heating.
I shower alternate days. Wash the other day and my usage for both gas/electric comes to £2.50 to £3.50 a day. I use air fryer instead of cooker and have a fridge and chest freezer running all day.
I would swop to a smart meter which is what I’m on and I’m with E-on next.
Explore these too: I’ve just moved to a rented property and when I went to read the meters outside I could smell a faint wiff of gas

Can you post your last bill? We really need to see what's going on there, as this is high just for electric, unless it's a catch up bill/ etc.
I’ve been charged £3.500 per annum all electric. I don’t understand this as during summer months even with todays kWh rates it costs me no more than £50 per month.
I would welcome advice on most economic heating systems.

Oh good grief! A definite problem. We are in a similar position in terms of used for electricity, except I have a hot tub heated 24/7 - I pay half what you do!
That much is not normal at all, the advisor has mis-informed you. However, you need to establish that there isn't anything in your house consuming all that power first. If you cant find anything then you need to do a test to prove if the meter is accurate or not.
This all assumes you have up-to-date bills and no outstanding debt being paid.
Also, check out: Account gone from +200 to -1400?

Wow you need to sort that out far to expensive. Ring customer services and ask them to sort this out sooner rather than later.
I'd do a creep test. Grab a friend. Turn absolutely everything that uses electricity off at the plug & unplug. Only leave your meter on and IHD plugged in if you have one.
Then wait 5 mins. Your meter should barley ove and your IHD should tell you your using 1p of electricity. If it's higher double check everything is off, fridges, freezes, internet...everything.
If your meter still shows you are using electric then you need to phone your supplier and tell them. If not, one of you stand by the meter/IHD the other goes round flicking switches, plugging everything in. Do this slowly so you can see the meter moving and/or see the amount in money rise on your IHD. By doing this you'll find the energy eating culprit.
Don't forget to take a look at: EOn Next have just emailed to say they are lowering prices and my DD is reducing from 1st July down approx 12.5%

My mums bills were extortionate. Even got the meter changed in the house. Had tried switching everything off in the house (except fridge/freezer) and still no change.
Eventually, I emptied the F/F and turned it off and her bills have dropped considerably. How old is you F/F?
Might be worth working towards emptying it and turning it off

The oil heating will use power for the pumps etc but that shouldn't affect this time of year. Is everything switched off when not in use, no computers left plugged in on standby all the time? Not sure how much the water pump will use but it will have an impact on costs, could be part of the issue.
Time to check out what your appliances do use, there is a smart plug that can monitor individual items to see if it is causing a problem, sometimes older fridges and freezers can use more than you think.

Are you taking meter readings daily then hourly to find out when you're using the most?
Unplug everything except the fridge/freezers and take a reading, then slowly add something else and take another reading in an hour and go through everything...this does sound very high.

Definitely not normal I'm using about £4 a day but we have xboxes computers tvs ect on all day (1 TV can be on till 3am as he's autistic and doesnt sleep much) then the usual house hold things so ours is roughly £140 a month.
