Looking for advice from anyone who has organised returning a case from abroad to their home. My suitcase is in the resort in Bodrum Turkey, I’m back home in Scotland.
I booked a package holiday, and on our last day a member of the hotel staff came and told us our shuttle transfer was there. We were at reception with our luggage (5 cases and 5 hand luggage) and the member of staff took one of our cases to the shuttle while we gathered the rest and the children.
That case never went on the transfer - this was only realised when luggage was being taken off at the airport and I was looking for it. The package holiday rep at the airport called the hotel and yes it was still there.
The rep called checkin who advised if we can get it over to the airport in a taxi we can get it on our flight (if I paid the cost and at this point I was happy to get the case back). We were told to get the rest of the cases and ourselves through check in then come back for the case when it arrived.
The holiday rep then came and said they’ve sent the case back to the hotel as it wouldn’t get there before check in closes and to organise getting the case home when we get back to Glasgow. I spoke to the rep at Glasgow airport on arrival and they were trying to organise for it to go as unaccompanied luggage on their next flight back.
They have now told me they won’t do any more as it never made it to the airport and I need to find my own way to courier it from the hotel back home at my cost.
My question is, what/who is the best company to use to organise getting my case from the hotel in Bodrum back to my home near Glasgow?

Surely that's the holiday company responsibility to get it back to you.
I live in Bodrum and to be honest cargo companies are rubbish...DHL would be your best bet but I'm not sure if they'd do it without checking the contents first.

Surely the tour operator and hotel are responsible for it to be returned to you. I'd make a formal complaint to them, then maybe something will be done.
Also, contact your insurance and ask for advice.

Don't miss: Best company to book a package holiday to Spain?Hope you get it sorted, good luck.
You may find it a cheaper option to get a cheap (if they exist) return flight to go and pick it up yourself than using a courier.
I did this a while back but I appreciate it is dependant on your circumstances with family etc if this is possible.

I would try looking for a British expats group for turkey, they will know of the couriers etc. you’ll probably find there’s a local who would help.
I live in the Algarve and I know that sort of stuff goes on on our expats groups x

Check it out with your insurance company they may have means & ways of sorting it out for you.
The package holiday company should not be dismissing it as l take it they were contracted with the hotel whose employees have failed in their duty of care to load it on the transport with you. Don't back down.

Look for a fb page for the hotel you were staying at and ask if someone is willing to bring it back, a courier would be another option but could be expensive and complicated as a customs declaration would need to be made and it could incur duty/vat if not brought back correctly (unaccompanied luggage)
